Why should we as a community pursue dirty industries that will
undo the investment we've put into a clean economic base that
builds on our natural resources and beauty? We don't have
to, we're not that desperate. We can continue down the
path we're currently on and succeed.
How do we take
advantage of our clean resources and continue to promote clean
economic development such as tourism?
Simple... we
tell the stories of success! Please read this story and
imagine how much more profitable tourism could be if we would
get together a coordinated campaign to promote town in this
light!
It was a
wonderful experience, a magical journey through time and a very
special place—the Grampian to Clearfield Rail Trail in central
Pennsylvania.

Want to learn more
about the reasons why we should continue to develop
Curwensville into a thriving tourism economy?
Spending Billions of Dollars
Travel and
tourism is big business for Pennsylvania, with spending by the
state's domestic and international visitors totaling $25.7
billion in 2005, or over $70 million each day. This amount of
annual expenditures is roughly equal to Pennsylvania's annual
General Fund budget and exceeds the total amount of sales rung
up at general merchandise, sporting good, hobby, book, music,
electronics, appliance, and furniture and home furnishing
stores in the state in a single year.
If Pennsylvania's travel and tourism industry were to
disappear completely, every man, woman, and child currently
living in the state would have to spend an additional $2,070
annually to replace the spending of the state's domestic and
international, business and leisure visitors and their
resulting contributions to the state's economy.

This
complete report from the State details this nicely.
Please take the time to read about the possibilities and think
about new ideas that we can consider for Curwensville!
Tourism is lucrative, booming and, perhaps most importantly,
it's a clean investment. It creates jobs, brings in real
money and doesn't have to decimate our environment and health
to do it!
